Our mission is to encourage and facilitate enrichment opportunities for Christian families that choose to home educate their children.
First, our purpose in fulfilling that mission is to educate our children in a Christ-centered environment, providing unique educational opportunities that capitalize on the strengths of the parents involved. Secondly, we seek to foster community among our families and provide support and encouragement to one another on the homeschooling journey.
We are an "all hands on deck" co-op. This means all moms or caregivers are involved and present during co-op each week and will be assigned to be a helper or to teach classes. We do this with everyone’s individual gifting and preferences in mind.
You will find a plethora of information in this packet. We have included all of the information we feel may be important to you. If you have additional questions or more information, please contact the Director or whoever invited you to join Shema!
Please know that we will be praying for you individually, and for your family as you consider joining our Shema Homeschool Community. We ultimately desire that you rely on the Lord for guidance and direction for your family.
On Behalf of the Leadership Team at Shema Homeschool Co-op,
Jennifer Belcher, Director
Shema started with a group of about 6 families in Bonner Springs that broke off from a more rigorous co-op program. They wanted to do schooling together with the freedom of collaboration with one another. Most of their children were all the same ages and they met one morning a week at Fellowship West in Bonner Springs. Over time, by word of mouth and by inviting friends, the co-op grew and grew!
Once we returned in August of 2020, there was quite an influx of new families looking for homeschooling resources. By August of 2021, Shema completely outgrew the space and relocated to First Baptist of Basehor. Before that semester was half over, it was clear that we needed even more space.
We moved to West Haven Baptist Church in January of 2022, which has been able to accommodate our growing Community!
All 6 of these mothers have since moved on from Shema and have graduated many students! They left us with the tools and opportunity that we now have to reach and support many Christian homeschoolers in the area!
Just as Paul said, that the many members of the Church have different and unique roles or functions to make up the Body of Christ,
So the members of Shema work collaboratively to make an immeasurable impact for generations to come.
